What is the Miracle League?

If I were to tell you about an organized youth baseball league, you might call it ordinary.
If I were to tell you the athletes are physically and mentally disabled, you might call it touching.
If you were to see them play, you would call it a miracle.

The Miracle League is a baseball league for physically and mentally disabled children. But the league is not just about playing baseball. It’s about building self-esteem, making new friends and making dreams come true.

The Central Florida Miracle League, in partnership with the City of Orlando and Orange County, built a Field of Dreams designed to accommodate wheelchairs and other walking–assistance devices. The Demetree Miracle Field was constructed with a custom-designed cushioned synthetic turf to literally “level” the playing field for all participants. Now children with disabilities suit up, step up to the plate and enjoy the game of baseball in its purest form. It is a dream most of these children would not be able to realize as members of traditional youth leagues.

To help the athletes, The Miracle League uses “Angels in the Outfield”, a buddy system pairing each player with an able-bodied volunteer. What results is a bond that cannot be described.

Now in its eighth year, the Central Florida Miracle league boasts 125 participants and a league in Clermont & Tavares.
